Cooking over a wok in a George Town heritage kitchen

About

A Nyonya kitchen, open to guests

Nyonya Su Pei cooks and teaches the Peranakan food of Penang — family recipes, market knowledge, and the unhurried craft of rempah.

Award winning chef, Malaysian heritage cuisine teacher

Nyonya Su Pei holds a Professional Diploma in Malaysian Heritage Culinary and has more than ten years at the stove as a teacher and private dining chef. Guests know her for clear explanations, a tidy kitchen, and a gift for making traditional work feel possible.

She teaches in George Town and hosts private tables. Alongside the food, she talks about Baba Nyonya history — why a sour laksa belongs to Penang, why keluak is soaked for days, why a sambal must be fried until the oil rises.

The school sits at 1-Stop Midlands Park Center on Jalan Burma. Private dining is nearby at 53 Jalan Padang Victoria. Both are small on purpose.

Nyonya Su Pei is a brand of The Heritage Artisans. Classes and private dining are operated by The Heritage Artisans.

A kitchen that keeps the old ways useful

From scratch

No shortcuts, no mystery packets. We work with real ingredients, traditional techniques, and a little patience — pounding spices, building stocks, and shaping kuih by hand. You’ll leave knowing not just what to cook, but how to make it yourself.

In English

Teaching is clear and unhurried. Recipes go home printed in English. Questions are part of the class, not an interruption.

For every table

Solo travellers, families, and vegetarian guests are welcome. Tell us what you need; the menu can bend without losing its character.
